“I’m soaking in knowledge every second I spend with you guys!”
Morningstar Bloom, age 14
Michael Martindale has returned again this year with a storm of revelry, gifts, and 25 of his closest friends and family. Michael spent most of his weekend as a Naturalist in Training. From answering questions on the boats to organizing evening activities, I think he may have a future. On shore we enjoyed fresh oysters and lobster as well as lattes in the morning and martinis in the evening.
Out at sea we saw approximately 20 whales at the same time! There were at least 10 cow/calf pairs playing in the currents at the reef Piedras Atravezadas. From tandem spy-hopping to baby whales playing leapfrog, we enjoyed quite a show! It seems that the whales are still enjoying the warm Baja waters before their trip to Alaska and want to get as much play time in as they can.
We also enjoyed a trip to the mangrove forest to see the plethora of birds there and Michael did such a great job, he even earned the first ever Campo Cortez Junior Naturalist badge and received an official whale beckoning device.
