2006 Camp Update
By Caroline Armon
February 19th, 2006
We were blessed this week to have a number of young people visit us. From age 6 – 12, we at Campo Cortez have enjoyed their spirit and energy. Christof and Sebastian enjoyed looking under the microscope at a gray whale’s crustaceans while Tea, Elizabeth, Piper spent hours on the mudflats looking for scallops, fish, and other marine organisms. Maddie is a promising marine biologist, and soaked up all the information about the ecosystems like a sponge. Each had the opportunity to pet adult and young gray whales and described their texture as similar to a sausage!
With the arrival of 16 new guests via the Baja bus system, we met guests from across America with a wide range of backgrounds and ages. All of us – including a very friendly adult whale, thoroughly enjoyed David’s Georgia accent: “Hot dawg! Give us some sugar!” Emirta, an accomplished bilingual children’s author, taught us a fantastic song that the whales cant seem to resist!
¡Mamasita! ¡Ai mami!
